King of Kings Church
In recent months, residents of Kamukuzi (on the western fringe of Mbarara)
watched in awe as a mighty cathedral grew on the King of Kings land. What at
first appeared to be a forest of poles soon took shape as a large and spacious
worship centre capable of seating upwards of 700 people.
Technically the construction is a temporary building. However it will
serve the King of Kings Church until such time as the Lord opens the way for a
more permanent facility on their own land. (The current site is leased on a
yearly basis from the district council.)
The building is a marvel of African ingenuity and bush engineering. Built of
eucalyptus poles, galvanized iron sheets and planks of timber, the structure is
spacious and cool. Internally there is a large multi level platform ideal for
the choir who lead worship at every gathering. The seating area is stepped to
ensure that everyone has a clear view of the platform. Built almost entirely by
voluntary labour, the cathedral stands as a tribute to the dedication of the
Pastors and church family.
There were many
attempts by the enemy to stop the construction of this building. Even when the
building was completed, forces set against this church community tried to have
the church structure demolished. We praise God that none prevailed and it stands
today as a tribute to the dedication of the church family and the faithfulness
of God.
On Sunday morning there are two morning services. The first service commences
at 8.00am and caters largely for the young people from many boarding schools in
the area. On the Sunday I was present, more than 150 people were in attendance.
The second service flows directly from the first at around 10.00am and attracts
over 350 to 400 people. This service rarely finishes before 1.30pm. Another
service late in the afternoon provides for the specific needs of young people.
The worship is vibrant and energetic. The passion of the worshippers is
something to excite any believer. The ministry people receive is founded on the
Word of God and ministered by leaders who have real integrity. It is no wonder
this church is growing rapidly.
Evangelistic Ministry.
Evangelist Crusades are a major feature of the ministry of Pastor Silas and
Nicola Tayebwa. Although the evangelistic program has been on hold during
the construction of the new church facility, the church is now geared for a new
round of evangelistic outreaches in the areas around Kamukuzi ahd neighbouring
areas.
The singers sing and
dance up a storm of praise. Music is an important
part of attracting a crowd of people to the crusade. The praise and worship not
only prepares people's hearts but also sets a scene for breakthrough in the
heavenly realms. Much spiritual opposition is broken during the time of praise
and worship. It frequently last for up to two hours.

But all that goes before simply sets the scene for the proclamation of the
Gospel by Pastor Silas. He is a powerful and articulate preacher who fearlessly
faces any opposition. He declares the simple truth of the Gospel and invites
people to give their lives to Christ. It is a regular occurrence to see many
getting saved.
Signs, wonders and miracles are a regular part of these crusades. People are
healed of all manner of sicknesses including HIV/AIDS and body deformities.
Encounters with demonic spirits are common and usually result in the person
being set free. There are former witch doctors who will now testify of their
deliverance during a crusade gathering.
